Sirodhara and head massage
Shirodhara, a traditional Ayurvedic practice, is magical, mysterious, and deeply ancient. Known as the ‘third eye massage,’ this procedure involves a thin stream of heated oil or another liquid flowing gently onto the ‘third eye’ area, located in the center of the forehead between the eyebrows.
The term ‘Shirodhara’ originates from Sanskrit, combining ‘shiro’ (head) and ‘dhara’ (stream). It is recommended to precede the treatment with either a full-body oil massage or a specific Indian head massage. After the session, a period of rest is advised.
According to Ayurvedic principles, Shirodhara stimulates the body’s fire element, so it’s important to allow any sensations invoked by the massage to settle in the mind.
Shirodhara offers profoundly soothing and purifying effects. The gentle stream of oil fosters immediate focus and a serene sense of presence. This treatment helps alleviate migraines, headaches, and improves memory and sleep quality. Surprisingly, it can also ease symptoms of stomach ulcers, diabetes, and asthma. Additionally, the warmth of the oil helps smooth early wrinkles, leaving the skin radiant and glowing.
Note: Following this procedure, ensure you keep your head wrapped for at least two hours and maintain a relaxed demeanor
